Fall is in the air.
The leaves are crunching.
People are talking about “apple picking.”
Pumpkin Spice Lattes are here.
Why should your dog have to miss out on all the fun? As it turns out, pumpkin is actually great for your dog. She should be eating more of it, and often! It’s got tons of fiber, magnesium, iron, and Vitamins A and C.
Here’s our favorite dog-friendly recipe for pumpkin spice latte which, unsurprisingly, isn’t a latte at all. You should never give your dog coffee or anything caffeine, but you already knew that. And don’t worry, all these ingredients are totally safe for your pup to eat and drink! Just go easy at first – remember that adding anything new into your dog’s diet can upset her stomach a bit.

Pumpkin Spice Latte for Dogs
1.5 cups unsweetened coconut milk (light or regular)
1 cup pure pureed pumpkin
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. honey
*You can include whipped cream (no sugar or sugar substitutes!) if you’re sure your dog’s stomach can tolerate dairy
Pour all ingredients into a blender. Blend until smooth. Serve to your dog in a wide bowl or very large cup. Recipe makes 2.5 cups and should give you anywhere from 1-4 portions, depending on the size of your dog.
Note: Resist the urge to include nutmeg, a spice traditionally used in pumpkin desserts, in this drink. Nutmeg can actually be toxic to dogs in large amounts!
That said, don’t be afraid to play around with your latte to suit your dog’s tastes. Throw in some unsweetened applesauce, stir in some chicken stock, or even include some low-fat yogurt if your dog’s tummy tolerates dairy. Just keep it low-sugar!
