Introduction

Dogs have always been hard working and have stuck by our side since they became domesticated. Since then, we have always had specific jobs for them, whether it's herding, hunting, or protecting livestock. Over the last hundred years, we've had a new job for them, training them and showcasing their talents at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. The Show has been an annual event since 1877, and has added new breeds through the years to exhibit. Throughout many shows, it has become apparent that some breeds win more than others, and may attract those looking to get into the dog show business. Here are the top breeds to win Best in Show!

Wire Fox Terrier

The Wire Fox Terrier is no doubt the favorite pup at the dog show. They have an appearance similar to the Smooth Fox Terrier, but differ in their bent ears and a thick, curly coat. These pups weigh in at most 18 pounds, and have a charismatic, keen, and bold personality that has won the judges over 13 times.

Scottish Terrier

The Scottish Terrier is one of the smallest breeds at the Kennel Club Dog Show, and despite its size, makes a great contender. Their dark dress-like fur and pointed ears have become a favorite at the show. Due to their independent and self-assured nature, they have won the WKC and BIS prizes 8 different times, the most recent in 2010.

English Springer Spaniel

The English Springer Spaniel is a known contestee of the annual Kennel Club Dog Show, always reaching high marks. These sassy, but obedient pups have a distinct coloring, and long, wavy ears to mark their looks. Thanks to their intelligent and active personalities, they have won the BIS prize six times throughout 1963 to 2007.

Smooth Fox Terrier

Playful and affectionate, the Smooth Fox Terrier is a popular dog that has attended the Kennel Club Dog Show for years, winning four prizes in 1907, 1908, 1909, and 1910. No wonder either, as these pups are great family pets, but also make perfect show dogs thanks to their alert and active personalities that are easy to train.

Airedale Terrier

They are fearless, loyal, and obedient to their owners, always eager to listen and please. This has made them great show dogs, and coupled with their smooth coats, they have earned four BIS prizes from 1939, 1952, 1953 and 1989.

Poodle

The standard Poodle has been a common contestee at the Kennel Club Dog Show, due to their easily-groomed coats and trainable personalities. Not only do they listen well, but they also are active, alert, and intelligent. Those traits have made them great family pets, and won them the BIS prize for four different years.

Sealyham Terrier

This fluffy and medium-sized terrier originated as a working dog in wales before being developed as a show dog. Since then, the Sealyham Terriers have been a popular breed at the Kennel Club Dog Show, where they have won the BIS prize for four years thanks to their pretty coats and calm temperments.
