The French Bull Jack is a sweet and intelligent hybrid dog breed that is created from two very different but equally wonderful breeds. The French Bulldog and Jack Russell Terrier are both small in size but have big hearts. One parent is known to be quite lazy while the other will be bouncing off the walls, and therefore the activity level of these dogs is hard to determine for sure. Keep your pet active but do not exercise them a lot in warm weather. Since this designer breed has the potential to be very energetic, they will need a big yard that is fenced in.

French Bull Jack Breed History

Not much can be said about the beginning of the French Bull Jack. They are a new hybrid breed that has only been around for a short period of time and is made from the French Bulldog and the Jack Russell Terrier. French Bulldogs are most likely closely related to a toy variety of the English Bulldog. These dogs were quite popular in England around the 1850s and 1860s, and could often be found as pets for lace makers in a region of the English midlands called Nottingham. When the English began to lose interest in the breed, many of these dogs were sent to France, where they were named the French Bulldog. After being crossed with a variety of dog breeds, they made a great impression on wealthy city women and rural landowners alike. The creation of the French Bulldog Club of America was in 1897, and in 1898 the organisation held a specialty show in the Waldorf-Astoria ballroom of New York, which drastically increased the popularity of the breed. 1902 was the founding year of the French Bulldog Club of England, and they held their first show in 1903. This breed lost its popularity after World War I and even more so during the Great Depression, but they got it back by the 1980s and 1990s. Devonshire, England is the birthplace of the Jack Russell Terrier, which is a breed that has existed since the 1800s. In 1819, a man named John Jack Russell came upon a female Terrier dog while wandering the campus of Oxford University. He adopted and named the dog Trump, who was thought to be a mix between a Black and Tan Terrier and a Fox Terrier. Mr. Russell graduated from Oxford and decided to breed Trump to create a Terrier type dog who was tall enough to hunt with his foxhounds, but still able to fit into fox dens. The mix is thought to include Beagles and Fox Terriers. Once Mr. Russell had passed away, the breed of dog that he created became very popular among sportsmen, and may have occasionally been crossed with Dachshunds, Corgis, some types of toy breeds and other Terriers. These mixes led to a variation in size, type and shape, which made them ineligible for acceptance in the Kennel Club. Competitive shows began when the Jack Russell Terrier Club of Great Britain was founded in 1974. In the 1980s, this club was eventually split into two groups with different goals. One group wanted to create a dog with a more stable size and appearance, while the other prioritized skill and temperament. The Jack Russell Terrier Club was created in 1976.

French Bull Jack Breed Appearance

All aspects of the French Bull Jack will depend on those of the French Bulldog and the Jack Russell Terrier.  French Bulldogs are described as small but sturdy dogs. They have very big and almost bat-like ears, with noses that resemble those of a pug, and flat heads. The foreheads are rounded and the teeth meet in an underbite. Their eyes are large and round, and the tails are either straight or corkscrew. These dogs have a square silhouette, since the height from ground to withers is proportional to the length from the withers to tail. From another angle, this breed is pear shaped, since the shoulders are wider than the rear end. Jack Russell Terriers are small and athletic, with a slightly tapering skull that is flat between the ears. Although the stop is not abrupt, it is well defined and their almond shaped eyes will be dark and not protruding. This breed will have forward folding v-shaped ears and scissor bite teeth. They have small chests and long forelegs, with strong and muscular hind legs and high set tails.

French Bull Jack Breed Maintenance

Considering the maintenance levels of the Jack Russell Terrier and the French Bulldog, we can conclude that the French Bull Jack will have a low maintenance level, since both Jack Russell Terriers and French Bulldogs have easy to care for coats. Both breeds require weekly brushings, but do not need any clipping or scheduled bathing. The Jack Russell Terrier will need stripping two times per year. You should check and gently clean your pet’s ears once a week, which will help prevent ear infections. You should also trim their nails once every month or two. Lastly, it is important to brush your dog’s teeth as often as possible, or at least two to three times per week. This will help keep the teeth and gums healthy and prevent tooth decay or infection. Keep up these few simple tasks to ensure that your dog feels and looks their best.

French Bull Jack Temperament

Personalities of designer breeds can also vary depending on which traits that the individual takes on from each parent. French Bulldogs are great companion pets that are not difficult to control and are well behaved around unknown people and animals alike. Although they can be clownish and have a mischievous streak, they are attention craving dogs that will need their owner’s affection at all times. They can develop social anxiety and should not be left for long periods of time on their lonesome. Their occasional stubbornness can make it a challenge to train this breed. The Jack Russell Terrier is a big dog that comes in a small package. They are an extremely intelligent breed that is also mischievous and have minds of their own. This breed is easy to train and will be good family dogs when raised with children.

French Bull Jack Activity Requirements

The French Bulldog is fairly low maintenance when it comes to exercising, and will be content with a few short walks per day, along with some time to play in the yard. They can do well in houses and yards of any size, but should not be exercised much when it is hot out. The Jack Russell Terrier is a very energetic breed that should not be kept in an apartment, as they need large spaces to bound around in. If they feel too cooped up and energetic, they can become destructive. They are adventurous and like to dig, so they should be watched when out in the yard, even if it is fenced. This breed will need mental stimulation as well as physical.

Bella is a wonderful little family member with a big heart in a small package. She is extremely affectionate and loves company. We have found her to be very smart, always playful, robust and easy to train. very much a companion dog and not one to be left alone for long periods. She does not snap unless playing and loves attention. Although she snores sometimes at night, her breathing when awake is free and without obstruction. She also has a longer back then a pure breed frenchie as well as more of a snout which is why she can breathe. In the 5 months she came to live with us we have very much fallen in love with her, everyone that meets her fells the same. She does require daily walks of at least an hour as well as play time at home so keep that in mind if you are considering getting one. The only other thing to keep in mind is if you feed this breed kibble all the time, they get gas and bad gas at that. Feeding her a proper balanced diet fixed that.

He is a very high energy dog, very sweet, and very affectionate. He loves children! When the grandkids come over, hes right in the middle of things along with them. He rules the dog park. No dogs can catch him, and he loves playing chase!

We chose Louis because my partner and I both love the Jack Russell and French Bulldog breeds. Louis is an incredibly affectionate and playful dog, and the absolute best companion to us both! He is both high energy but also loves relaxing and being lazy. He can keep up easily on long walks for hours at a time, but likewise is happy with shorter walks (as long as he gets 2 or 3 a day). He is very much guided by routine, and will remind us when we are late giving him a walk or his food. He also has certain times in the day when he has learnt we tend to play with him in the house (when I get home from work or after we have eaten our dinner), and will dutifully bring us toys during these times. He is the most playful dog! He alerts us to people knocking at the door or approaching the house by barking several times. He will then be on high alert and we need to tell him to stop. He is very aware of his surroundings and is always looking and listening. He loves people and gets very excited when he is greeted by someone, be it a stranger or a person he knows. He taught himself to put a toy in his mouth when someone arrives to the house, as this can help him be quiet and stay more calm. This is a really endearing trait of his and looks very cute. He has been very quick with learning basic training commands, but is also stubborn at times so following through on these when he is excited can be tricky for him. For this reason, we tend to keep him on the lead for all walks. His recall isn’t great and if he sees something that excites him or makes him upset (scooters or wheelchairs) he would chase it. He is very happy on his lead though and walks really well (doesn’t pull and happily accepts being put on the lead, etc). He is friendly with other dogs. He goes on regular walks with other dogs with a dog walker, and is calm with puppies who can be excitable around him. There are some dogs that seem to over excite or upset him and he will bark nonstop at them. This does include Stafford, and we have been told by a dog behaviourist it might be because the way the dogs walk can look aggressive to Louis. When this happens we steer him away until he calms down. Now that Louis is nearly 5 years old, we are finding he is calmer. He can get anxious about some things, but separation anxiety is not an issue. He can be on his own during the day no problem (just stays curled up and sleeps) and is very happy when we get home! Being greeted by my little dog when I come home is the best part of my day! He is a very healthy dog. At times he has had sensitive skin flare ups on his paws, but we have treated this with prescribed shampoo for a short period and also changed his diet and this hasn’t been an issue for a long time now. He can get a sensitive stomachs if he eats something he’s not used to, but this isn’t so much of a problem now. We tend to give him snacks that come from our food (he loves most veggies!) and so has a pretty varied diet on top of his normal dog food. We are very lucky to have him!

He is an adorable dog with tendencies towards both parents traits. Sometimes he is a couch potato like a frenchie and sometimes he is bouncing off the walls. This dynamic makes for a wider range in moods than other dogs I’ve had. Overall he is a super lovable and playful pup and I would definitely recommend the breed for those who are looking.

Chanel has been a huge part of my life she is my best Friend, she did have a male pitbull as a companion, he was 5 when Chanel joined the family, but he passed away when he was 14, Chanel became depressed and now has anxiety and social anxiety, takes a long time to get to know people but when she finally puts trust in them she is the most affectionate little dog that loves cuddles😍, I can not have her around children or strangers she will try and bite ankles,😪, she prefers to be around confident male dogs but she still likes to be the boss, I have a small parrot that she tolerates haha I wouldn’t leave the cage door open if I wasn’t in the room 😊 she loves me to bits and I love her to bits
