Doberman Pinscher
Standard Poodle

The Doodleman Pinscher is a large hybrid that comes from mixing a Doberman Pinscher and a Standard Poodle. They have thick, wavy fur that comes in almost any color from black to white and may be short to medium in length. They usually weigh about 75 pounds and stand about 26 inches tall on average. They are easy to train but may be stubborn if you are not firm with them. However, do not use physical punishment as that can create aggression. They need a lot of grooming due to their Poodle coat and are good family pets as long as they have a yard to run around in.

Doodleman Pinscher Breed History

The Doberman Pinscher originated in Germany in the 1890s so it is a pretty new breed. It was bred from the Rottweiler, Black and Tan Terrier, Sheepdog, Australian (Thuringen) Shepherd, German Pinscher, and Weimaraner to be a guard dog so they are brave and loyal. The breed was originally created by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann, who was a tax collector and dog catcher. He bred this breed to be his guardian so when he went door-to-door to collect taxes, he would be protected. Since they were produced, the breed became popular for use as police dogs, guard dogs, and military dogs. In fact, during World War II, these dogs were used as scouts, messengers, and sentries. They were so important in the 1945 Battle of Okinawa that a memorial statue of a Doberman Pinscher was erected in Guam to honor the 25 dogs who lost their lives during that war. In 1908, the American Kennel Club (AKC) accepted the Doberman Pinscher into their club and they are now the 15th most popular dog breed in the United States. The Poodle, which originated in Germany in ancient times, is one of the oldest known breeds of dogs. They were originally used in hunting as a water dog but soon became a show dog due to their intelligence and beauty. This breed is believed to be a combination of French, Hungarian, German, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian Water Dogs. Others claim there is North African Barbet and Asian herding dogs in the mix. Another story states that the Poodle has ancestors from Asian dogs that came over with the Moors in the 8th century. Statues of dogs that look like Poodles were found in Egyptian tombs and among Roman artifacts dating back to the first century B.C. This breed was registered by the AKC in 1887 and they are the 7th most popular dog breed in the United States.

Doodleman Pinscher Breed Maintenance

Because your Doodleman Pinscher is half Poodle, this is usually a high maintenance dog. They will need daily brushing with a wire brush and metal comb and you may also want to get them professionally groomed every few months to keep their coat more manageable. Only bathe them when absolutely necessary to prevent dry skin. It is recommended that you brush your Doodleman Pinscher’s teeth several times a week with a soft toothbrush and toothpaste made specially for dogs. Trim their nails when necessary and clean their ears once a week, watching for redness, earwax buildup, dirt, and ear mites.

Doodleman Pinscher Temperament

Although the Doodleman Pinscher makes a fierce guard dog, they are generally very gentle and sweet dogs that make excellent pets. To make sure they will get along well with your other pets and children it is best if they are socialized as puppies. They may be sensitive and can have separation anxiety if left alone too long. The Doodleman Pinscher is generally a good natured and intelligent dog that can learn fast but may be stubborn so you have to be consistent with training. It is best if you use positive reinforcement rather than physical punishment or yelling because this can cause your dog to be aggressive.

Doodleman Pinscher Activity Requirements

Your Doodleman Pinscher loves to run and would enjoy running alongside you as you bike or jog, or they can just run around the yard chasing the birds, rabbits, and squirrels. They are also good at Frisbee, fetch, hiking, and swimming. Another thing your dog may be interested in is agility training and she should be good at it since both the Doberman Pinscher and Standard Poodle are excellent athletes. Your dog needs at least 60 to 90 minutes of activity every day. If they do not get enough exercise, they may have behavior problems like chewing on furniture and other belongings.
