Bossi-Poo

Since the Bossi-Poo is a breed that has been created fairly recently by cross breeding two dogs, there is not much to be said on their history. The Boston Terrier is a dog breed that dates back to the 1800s from Boston, Massachusetts. They were originally much larger than the breed that we know today and were used as fighting dogs. They were originally made by crossing an English Bulldog and an English White Terrier. However, starting in 1865 and up until today, people began interbreeding the Boston Terrier which is how it became its own breed. The English White Terrier, which was originally used to create this breed, is now extinct. The size of these dogs was gradually brought down to its now standard size by breeding with smaller females. At one point, these dogs were bred with French Bulldogs as well. This breed became quite popular in Boston by 1889, but back then it was called the American Bull Terrier. However, due to a common dissatisfaction with the name, it was eventually changed to the Boston Terrier. Poodles were originally from Germany but are thought to have been bred in France as well. They are an old breed, dating back to at least the 15th century. In Germany, this breed was used as a water retrieval dog, which is most likely why they were given the name Poodle, since Pudel in Germany means “one who plays in water”. They were skilled as gundogs, sniffing out truffles and retrieving waterfowl. Hunters are the ones responsible for created the signature Poodle clip, which was actually done to protect the legs from brush and cold but the body clipped to make them more efficient in water. Because they are so intelligent and easily trainable, the breed was often used as performers in circuses by the French. These two very unique and talented breeds were brought together to give life to the Bossi-Poo.
